Gimme Hope Jo'anna is a British anti-apartheid song written and originally released by Eddy Grant in 1988, during the apartheid era in South Africa. The song was banned by the South African government when it was released, but was widely played there nonetheless. Suburbia " is a song by English  synthpop  duo  Pet Shop Boys . It was remixed and released as the fourth single from the duo's debut studio album,  Please  (1986), and became the band's second UK top-10 entry, peaking at number 8 The Boys have described this song as an "epic of mad dogs and hooligans" that was inspired by a film of the same name by Penelope Spheeris about aimless, disillusioned young toughs running rampant in the suburbs of Los Angeles. Very much the urbanites, Tennant and Lowe use this track as an opportunity to express what they consider to be "the full horror" (as the subtitle of one of the remixes puts it) of suburban life, where nastiness and evil lurks just beneath a superficially attractive surface. The dogs mentioned in the lyrics and whose barking frames the track probably symbolize the underlying beastialism of humanity. You Came  is the second single from the album  Close  by  Kim Wilde . The song was written by Wilde and  Ricky Wilde , after the birth of his first child, Marty. The single became one of the biggest hits of Wilde's career, peaking at number three on the  UK Singles Chart  and reaching the top 10 in several other European countries, including Denmark, where it reached number one for five weeks. In the United States, it was her fourth (and, to date, final) single to reach the top 50, peaking at number 41 on the  Billboard  Hot 100 . It also reached number 10 on the  Billboard   Hot Dance Club Play  chart. If your a lover of 80s music then you will love this treat Originally recorded by David and Jonathan, and then Gene Pitney in 1967, the latter's version of the song reached No. 5 on the UK Singles Chart in December 1967, but failed to chart in the United States. The song was subsequently covered by a number of other acts including Cilla Black, Allison Durbin (dubbed "Australia's Queen of Pop" in the 1960s) on her 1968 album  I Have Loved Me a Man , Terry Reid, and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds on their 1986 album of covers  Kicking Against the Pricks . It was released in December 1988 in the United Kingdom and in the United States as the second single from their album  Living Years . The song was a chart hit around the world, topping the US  Billboard  Hot 100  on 25 March 1989, [2]  and reaching No.1 in Canada and Australia and No.2 in the UK where it was prevented from #1 by  Something's Gotten Hold Of My Heart  by Mark Almond ft Gene Pitney for 3 weeks.
