She's Like the Wind Song by Patrick Swayze

Image
She's Like the Wind is a 1987 song by American actor and singer Patrick Swayze from the soundtrack to the film Dirty Dancing. The song features additional vocals from singer Wendy Fraser. The ballad reached number three on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number one on the Adult Contemporary chart Swayze and Stacy Widelitz co-wrote the song in 1984. It was originally intended for the soundtrack of Grandview, U.S.A. and was meant to be about Jamie Lee Curtis' character in the film.[citation needed] However, the song was not used in that film. During production of Dirty Dancing in 1987, Swayze played the demo for producer Linda Gottlieb and director Emile Ardolino. They loved it and passed it on to Jimmy Ienner and Bob Feiden, the soundtrack's executive producers. It was recorded for the soundtrack in November 1986, with Michael Lloyd producing. The song, like the film in which it was featured, was a success, reaching number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and number one on Adult...

“With or Without You” by U2

Image
“With or Without You” by U2 Oh, it’s so easy to mock U2: the bombast, the shades, the pomp… But the band’s 1987 opus,  The Joshua Tree , contains three of its mightiest songs in a row, of which “With or Without You” is its most affecting. The song’s bittersweet sentiment is perfectly matched by the music—at turns delicate and yearning, then surging and desperate. Anyone who’s driven through the desert will recognize its massive vistas in this blown-open sonic landscape. Play it somewhere you can howl along, loudly. LYRICS  See the stone set in your eyes See the thorn twist in your side I'll wait for you Sleight of hand and twist of fate On a bed of nails, she makes me wait And I wait without you With or without you With or without you Through the storm, we reach the shore You give it all but I want more And I'm waiting for you With or without you With or without you, ah, ah I can't live With or without you And you give yourself away And you give yourself away And you give A...

“I Wanna Dance with Somebody” by Whitney Houston

Image
I Wanna Dance with Somebody” by Whitney Houston In 1987, Houston was still very much a fresh-faced siren with the crystal-clear voice and a world of possibilities at her feet. Her approach to this song—which, when you break it down, is more about loneliness than love—says a lot about her ability to radiate warmth and positivity through her singular sound. It's miles away from the struggles the singer would face later in her career. Always a party starter and roof-igniting karaoke jam, the song become a bittersweet rallying cry in the years since her death. You can practically hear 23-year-old smiling through the chorus, urging every last wallflower on to the dance floor. Who can resist? LYRICS  Huh, yeah, woo Hey yeah, huh Ooh yeah, uh huh, yeah I wanna dance Clock strikes upon the hour And the sun begins to fade Still enough time to figure out How to chase my blues away I've done alright up 'til now It's the light of day that shows me how And when the night falls Lone...
